One of the easiest types of post cap lights to install is a solar post cap.  There is virtually no wiring involved, so all you need to really do is screw the housing to the post, insert the batteries, snap on the lid, and you are ready to go!  Plus, you will be doing your part to support renewable energy, while saving money on your electricity bill at the same time!

How Your Solar Powered Post Cap Works:
The solar panel converts sunlight energy into electricity during the day. The Photocell automatically turns the light on at night with the electricity stored in the batteries. It requires no wiring, because it runs off the sunlight energy to recharge the batteries so there is no cost to run the solar cap. The battery replacement is about two years. The number of hours the light stays on depends on your geographical location, weather conditions and seasonal sunlight availability. Easy "Do-it-yourself installation."

Post Cap Installation:

1. Remove plastic tab from battery base
2. Secure fixture to post using two #4 stainless steel mounting screws provided. (pre-drill 5/64” pilot holes into post to easily fasten screws). You can also apply any outdoor silicone to the bottom inside edge of cap before installation for added security. Wipe off excess.
3. Allow at least 8 hours of sunlight to fully charge the batteries

Note: Classy Caps feature a removable lid to easily replace the batteries (battery replacement is about 2 years).

To Replace The Batteries:

1. Carefully pull up from all 4 corners of lid (fig. 1). Replace the batteries with new AA size 1.2 V 1000 mAh rechargeable batteries. Be sure to insert batteries in the proper direction.
2. Firmly snap the lid back into place. Be sure that all 4 corners of lid are secured to cap base.
3. Allow the fixture to receive a full 8 hours of sunlight to allow the rechargeable batteries to reach maximum capacity.

Troubleshooting Tips:
If the light does not turn on at dusk after 8 hours of charging:

Check the batteries to make sure they are making secure contact with the terminal

Be sure the solar fixture is in a sunny location and not in a shady location.

Make sure the light’s photocell is not affected by other light

Caution:

Failure to insert batteries in the correct polarity,may shorten the life of the battery or cause battery to explode or leak

Do not mix old and new batteries.

Do not mix Alkaline, Standard (carbon- zinc) or Rechargeable (nickel Cadmium) or (nickel Metal Hydride) batteries.

Do not dispose of batteries in fire.

Maintenance:
Periodically clean light fixture with soft cloth and warm soapy water.
